What is Generative AI?
Generative AI (GenAI) refers to AI systems capable of generating original content, such as text, images, video, audio, and code. These systems learn patterns from vast datasets and create outputs based on user prompts.
Using AI Responsibly at IECC

- Policy and academic integrity: State in each syllabus and assignment whether AI use is permitted, limited, or prohibited, and apply the IECC Academic Integrity Policy consistently. AI detection and similarity reports are indicators for review, not proof of misconduct.
- Privacy and data: Do not enter student records, grades, or other confidential information into AI tools. Check a tool's data and privacy terms before requiring students to use it.
- Accessibility: Choose tools that work with assistive technology, and offer alternatives so no student is required to use a particular commercial tool.
- Teaching and learning: Align AI use with learning outcomes, explain why you allow or restrict it, and design assignments that show student thinking, such as drafts, reflection, and discussion.
- Verify output: AI can produce errors or biased content. Review anything you share with students.
