Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Course Workload Estimator

How to Use the Workload Estimator

  1. Enter the course credit hours and the class length in weeks.
  2. Fill in the reading, writing, assignment, and assessment details for a typical week.
  3. Review the results: Contact Hours are time in class or in scheduled instruction, and Work Outside of Class is student work done on their own. Together they make up total course hours.

Methodology and limitations: This tool is based on the Wake Forest Enhanced Course Workload Estimator and gives an estimate only. Actual student time varies with reading speed, prior knowledge, and course design. Use the results as a starting point for design conversations, and view this tool alongside the IECC Course Review Checklist. If a part of this tool is not accessible to you, email cetl@iecc.edu.

Research & Design: Based on the Enhanced Course Workload Estimator by Betsy Barre, Allen Brown, and Justin Esarey
Enhanced by IECC CETL with interactive visualizations, dynamic credit calculations, and theme customization
