About this pathway

The Public Relations & Speaking transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science and Arts degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in public relations, strategic communication, or a related communication discipline. The program prepares students to plan, create, and deliver messages that build relationships between organizations and their audiences across traditional, social, and digital media. Coursework introduces students to public speaking, mass communication, writing for media, and the principles of public relations, while developing the research, presentation, and interpersonal skills essential to the profession. Topics of study include fundamentals of public speaking, public relations principles, writing for media, mass communication, interpersonal and organizational communication, and digital and social media. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree will have the potential for employment as public relations specialists, communications coordinators, social media managers, corporate spokespersons, media relations professionals, event and campaign managers, or communication professionals in business, government, and nonprofit organizations.
