Turn your passion for fitness, sports, and health into a career. The Exercise Science transfer pathway at IECC leads to the Associate in Science degree and prepares you to transfer to a four-year university for a bachelor's degree in exercise science or kinesiology. Study anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and human performance, then go on to careers as a strength and conditioning coach, athletic trainer, personal trainer, cardiac rehab specialist, or wellness director — or continue to graduate school in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or athletic training.

About this pathway

The Exercise Science transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field. The program prepares students to study the scientific basis of human movement and its applications to fitness, performance, and therapeutic rehabilitation. Coursework introduces students to anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and psychology, along with introductory courses in exercise and wellness that develop the analytical and interpersonal skills needed for upper-division study. Topics of study include human anatomy and physiology, principles of exercise and fitness, nutrition, biomechanics, and motor development. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree will have the potential for employment as exercise physiologists, strength and conditioning specialists, athletic trainers, personal trainers, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, or wellness program coordinators.
