About this pathway
The Elementary Education transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science and Arts degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree leading to licensure as an elementary school teacher. The program prepares students to teach across the elementary curriculum in kindergarten through grade eight by building a broad general education foundation and introducing the principles of teaching and learning. Coursework introduces students to educational psychology, child development, introduction to education, and the content areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, along with experiences that begin to develop classroom skills. Topics of study include foundations of education, learning theory, instructional planning, classroom management, and diversity in education. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree and obtain state licensure will have the potential for employment as elementary classroom teachers in public and private schools, as well as related roles in tutoring, curriculum support, and educational services.
