IECC Celebrates Adult Education and Family Literacy Awareness Week

September 18th through September 22nd, 2023 is Adult Education and Family Literacy week. The Illinois Eastern Community College Adult Education Program is committed to helping students succeed and strengthen their communities. IECC offers individuals a chance to reach their goals by providing students with an opportunity to receive free High School Diploma classes that focus on academics, college and career readiness, and English as a Second Language classes.  Our faculty and staff both on campus at all four colleges (Frontier Community College, Lincoln Trail College, Olney Central College, and Wabash Valley College) and at our offsite locations in Albion, Flora, Grayville, Lawrenceville, and Newton have assisted over 35 students in completing the GED® program in the last year and served over 280 learners in the college district. 
 
IECC currently offers opportunities for GED® Test Preparation, iPathways curriculum and New Readers Press online Pre-GED® instruction, Pre-Bridge and Bridge Classes for Career and College readiness, and English as a Second Language classes. We offer help in Evidence Based Reading Instruction and Assessment to help our instructors provide a focused curriculum for students at various levels of educational needs and goals. From our placement assessments, we also offer our students one-on-one tutoring both inside the classroom and off campus as well through our Adult Volunteer Literacy program. 
 
The IECC Adult Education classes, books, materials, and tutoring are free to our students. We also offer AVL tutoring to community members not enrolled in classes who might just need life skills assistance, job skills, and reading assistance. 
 
Our classes run as 16-week, 12-week, and 8-week sessions and we provide open enrollment for Face-to-Face and Online classes. Our sessions open with registrations and orientations to help our students become more familiar with what each class offers and the type of instruction they will receive. Courses and services are offered all year through the fall, spring, and summer semesters. We work with our community partners to provide individuals with the ability to meet them where they are and during the times they need us the most.
