Standard Assignment: Feedback Studio
Use a Standard Assignment when you want to collect student work, review sources, and give feedback, rubric scores, and grades in one place.
When to choose this workflow
- Students submit a finished paper or file.
- You want a Similarity report and, if enabled for your course, AI-writing information to review.
- You want to use comments, a rubric, and grading in Feedback Studio.
Set up the assignment in Canvas
Follow the step-by-step guide: How to Set Up Turnitin in a Canvas Assignment.
Choices to make before you publish
- Similarity and AI-report settings: decide which reports to generate.
- Student visibility: decide whether students can view their reports.
- Resubmission: decide whether students may resubmit and how many times.
- Repository: choose where submitted papers are stored, according to IECC guidance.
Feedback, rubric, and grading
Open a submission from the Canvas gradebook to add comments, apply a rubric, and enter the grade. Review the full report details rather than relying on a percentage alone.
What students see
Students submit through the Canvas assignment. What they can view afterward depends on your settings. Tell students ahead of time what to expect.
Common setup mistakes
- Submission type is not set to Online with Text Entry or File Uploads.
- Turnitin is not selected under Plagiarism Review.
- Assignment directions do not state the rules for AI use.
