Wabash Valley College Offering Gas Utility Construction Bootcamp

Dec 18, 2025

Wabash Valley College will host a new Gas Utility Construction Bootcamp, a hands-on training program designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in the natural gas utility and pipeline construction industry. The bootcamp runs Saturdays, Jan. 10–March 14, 2026.

The intensive 10-week course will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the WVC campus in Mt. Carmel, offering 90 hours of expert training in gas main and service installation, safety protocols, and readiness for Department of Transportation Operator Qualifications (OQ).

Class size is limited to 10 students. The full bootcamp investment is $1,200, which includes industry-recognized certifications and job placement support.

Students gain real-world skills, including:

  • Joining PE pipe with butt fusion and electrofusion
  • Installing 2-inch gas mains and 1-inch service lines
  • OSHA-compliant excavation and trench safety
  • 811 “Dig Safe” and damage prevention protocols
  • Pressure testing, purging, and meter set assembly
  • Respond to abnormal operating conditions
  • Professional conduct, safety culture, and communication

Lead instructor Jack Tribe, a seasoned gas utility professional with more than 40 years of industry experience, will guide the program. Tribe is certified through Veriforce, NCCER, ITS and EWN, and brings expertise in safety and OQ training.

“My purpose is for every student to succeed — not to fail anyone,” Tribe said. “My goal is 100% job placement.”

Applicants must attend all sessions, pass a background check and drug screening, maintain a clean driving record, and be willing to travel or relocate for job opportunities. Military veterans, displaced workers, and adults available on weekends are encouraged to apply. High school seniors may also apply.
