Basic Nurse Assistant
Each of the four Colleges offer the approved Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) basic nurse assistant training program (HEA1203). This course provides eligibility to take the state exam for certification as a nurse assistant.
Practical Nurse Exit Option
The IECC/OCC nursing program supports the concept of articulation and educational mobility. Students have the educational mobility option of exiting after the first year at the practical nurse (PN) level or continuing into the second year to complete studies to become a registered nurse (RN). The practical nurse exit is approved by Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Transfer students
Transfer students who meet curriculum criteria may be granted advance placement to enter. A bridge course is offered for qualified students to facilitate transition to the program.
Licensed Practical Nurses
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) may articulate into the second year for registered nurse (RN) preparation. LPNs must complete required general education courses of the first year of the program prior to admission. Eligible students are provided a bridge course to facilitate role transition to registered nurse student.
Continuing Education: Associate to Bachelor's
The Nursing Program has articulation agreements with universities in IL and IN to provide opportunities for students to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing. The developed curricula requirements allow students to take other general education courses at IECC to prepare toward the bachelor's in nursing.
