About this pathway
The Pre-Health Professional transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree as preparation for medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, physical therapy, physician assistant, or other health professional programs. In an increasingly complex healthcare environment, there is a strong need for highly educated professionals with deep scientific knowledge and strong patient-care skills. Coursework provides a rigorous foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics, along with the writing, communication, and social science coursework expected by professional schools. Topics of study include general biology, general and organic chemistry, calculus, general physics, anatomy and physiology, and psychology. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree and additional professional study will have the potential for employment as physicians, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physician assistants, optometrists, and other licensed health professionals.
