About this pathway
The English Literature transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science and Arts degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in English or English literature. The program prepares students to study the English language and the literature and culture of English-speaking peoples while developing strong skills in writing, critical reading, and analysis. Coursework introduces students to college composition, literary analysis, and major literary traditions, along with the research and communication skills essential to the discipline. Topics of study include composition and rhetoric, introduction to literature, American and British literature, world literature, and creative writing. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree will have the potential for employment as writers, editors, technical and professional communicators, publishing professionals, English teachers, library and information professionals, or candidates for graduate study in English, law, and related fields.
