About this pathway
The Chemistry transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related physical science. The program provides a rigorous scientific foundation in the composition, structure, properties, and behavior of matter and prepares students for upper-division coursework and research in the chemical sciences. Coursework introduces students to general and organic chemistry, calculus, and physics, with extensive laboratory experiences that develop technical proficiency, safety awareness, and scientific reasoning. Topics of study include atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions, thermodynamics, equilibrium, organic chemistry, and quantitative analysis. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree will have the potential for employment as chemists, laboratory analysts, quality control specialists, forensic scientists, science educators, or pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals, and will be prepared for graduate or professional study in chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, and related fields.
