About this pathway

The Biology transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in biology or a related life science. The program provides a strong scientific foundation in the structure, function, and diversity of living organisms and prepares students for upper-division study in a wide range of biological specializations and pre-professional health programs. Coursework introduces students to general biology, chemistry, mathematics, and supporting sciences, with laboratory experiences that develop scientific reasoning and investigative skills. Topics of study include cellular and molecular biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree will have the potential for employment or advanced study in fields such as botany, zoology, microbiology, environmental biology, neuroscience, biotechnology, science education, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and other health professions.
