About this pathway
The Accounting transfer pathway, leading to the Associate in Science and Arts degree, is designed for students who plan to complete foundational coursework at IECC before transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting. The program provides a strong foundation in the principles and practices of accounting as applied in for-profit, public, and nonprofit organizations. Coursework introduces students to financial accounting, managerial accounting, business law, economics, and the use of accounting information systems, while developing the analytical, ethical, and communication skills essential to the profession. Topics of study include financial reporting, cost and tax accounting, auditing concepts, business statistics, and the use of technology in accounting practice. Graduates who complete a bachelor's degree will have the potential for employment as accountants, auditors, tax preparers, budget analysts, financial analysts, controllers, or consultants in corporate, governmental, and nonprofit settings, and will be prepared to pursue professional credentials such as the CPA.
