Truck Driving

Overview

Class A Training: The IECC-WVC Truck Driving program offers a hands-on Class A course, TRK 1201 Truck Driving, consisting of 75 classroom hours and 60 laboratory hours. IECC-WVC operates on the semester system with classes offered in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Credits are earned to indicate the student has fulfilled all the requirements of the course. IECC awards credits according to the Policy for the Assignment of Credit 500.7 and according to the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) Administrative Rules Section 1501.309, consistent with commonly accepted practices in higher education.

Students in the IECC-WVC Truck Driving program train on the District's Truck Driver Simulator for ten (10) hours before being introduced to the behind-the-wheel portion of the curriculum. Simulator training allows students to practice clutch, brake, and turning exercises under the watchful eye of the instructor. Construction is complete for the West Richland Center driving range that includes a pad and loading dock for students to practice under direct instructor supervision. Students can practice various exercises and remediate deficiencies on the range before they drive on roadways and are tested.

Students training during the behind-the-wheel portion of the curriculum are typically introduced to actual driving routes developed by the instructor. These routes are designed to familiarize the students to a variety of driving and roadway conditions. Starting on the driving range, planned routes proceed on a rural state highway and travel to one of the cities in the district to get familiar with heavier traffic. As student skills progress, the instructor provides planned routes that include various road and traffic conditions.

Please note: Courses are held at the West Richland Center in Noble, Illinois.
