General Information

Founded in 1960, Wabash Valley College is a two-year community college that offers a wide variety of transfer, occupational, continuing education and community service programs. WVC’s main campus is located on 120 scenic acres in northwest Mt. Carmel, Ill., a mile off of Highway 1.

The first step toward establishing a junior college in Mt. Carmel was taken in 1959 when the Board of Education of District #348 approved a resolution for the study of providing a junior college as a part of the educational system of the district. The referendum, which was held on Dec. 10, 1960, passed to establish a junior college – our Wabash Valley College.

Wabash Valley College was literally moved by the first Dean of the College, Ernest F. Anderson and the first secretary, Louise Acree, from its temporary office space at the Little Brick School building to its first home at Bluff Cottage on Aug. 1, 1961.

On July 1, 1969, Wabash Valley College became a part of Junior College District #529, along with Olney Central College. Lincoln Trail College and Frontier Community College were added later, forming what is now Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.

Today, WVC is helping area students and industry professionals achieve their goals by offering them quality education close to home. WVC also offers its students value by curating a wide array of programs, including specialty programs such as gunsmithing, adult and continuing education courses, and hobby classes, like yoga and modern dance.

As a college, our mission is to deliver exceptional education and services to improve the lives of our students and to strengthen our communities.
