On October 16th, Wabash Valley College hosted Diesel Day, an exciting event designed to give high school students a firsthand look at the field of Diesel Equipment Technology. The day-long event provided students with insight into the high-demand career and offered hands-on learning opportunities guided by industry professionals.
The day began bright and early with an 8 a.m. orientation at the Brubeck Theatre, where students were welcomed and introduced to the Diesel Equipment Technology program at WVC. After the orientation, students were divided into groups to participate in technical training sessions. These sessions allowed students to observe specialized equipment and learn from experts in the field.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to engage with technical representatives from the Agriculture, Heavy Truck, and Construction industries. These industry pros not only shared their expertise but also discussed the wide range of career opportunities available within the diesel technology sector. Students were encouraged to ask questions, to know what a future in this field might look like.
Lunch was provided by the WVC Diesel Equipment Technology Club, giving students a chance to connect with current WVC diesel students and faculty members, as well as network with peers interested in the same career path.
In the afternoon, students returned to their groups to continue technical training. This real-world exposure is one of the many ways WVC helps prepare future technicians for a successful career in the industry.
Diesel Day was not only informative but also an engaging experience that highlighted the importance of technical skills in a field that is constantly evolving.
