South Pacific Opens This Weekend at Lincoln Trail College

The Arts at Lincoln Trail College is putting final preparations together for their spring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific.”  Premiering on Broadway in 1949, this classic musical is set during WWII and deals with the subject of racial prejudice – a topic that finds relevancy today. The show features well-known songs such as, “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha’i,” “Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair,” and “Nothing Like a Dame.”  Opening night for this Pulitzer Award-winning musical is Friday, March 24 with a 7:00 p.m. performance followed by a 7:00 p.m. performance on March 25 and 31, and April 1.  There is one Sunday matinee on March 26 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are available in advance by calling the Performing Arts Office at LTC at 618-544-8657 and asking for Performing Arts, online at www.showtix4u.com/event-details/69476, or at the door before performances.  

“South Pacific” features the talents of a blend of over 50 veterans and newcomers to tell this story. The Starring as Nurse Nellie Forbush is RHS student Rebecca Trivett in her first LTC appearance.  Veteran Jeremy Dix portrays Emile DeBecque.  Also featured are LTC stage veterans Antje Pippin as Bloody Mary and Daniel Dix as Luther Billis.  Also in his first main-stage role is RHS student Colby McGahey playing the part of Lt. Cable.  The show features the talents of John Sutfin and Tom Moore, Tessa Walton and Tyler Pleasant, Makenzi Carlen, Samuel Mikeworth, Ryan Pinkston, Brennan Seth Tracy, Rudy Nichols, Vickie Becker, Abigail Metheny, Al Crosley, Sydney Schottman, Brian Manhart, Jon Murray, Olivia Teska, Jessica Moore, Sicily Rawlings, Monroe Nethery, Katrina Ferguson, and Kinley Bradbury.

The show is under the direction of Barbara Shimer and Cary Schiller with music direction by Yvonne Newlin, tech direction by Brooke Olaivar, stage management by Jake Wright, choreography by Jessica Cheesman, sound by Ken Martin, lighting by Kyle Myers, costuming by Mary Arabatgis with help from Kathleen Moore, Bethany Dunlap, and Lori McMillen, and production management by Kristi Rawlings.  Stage crew members are Devon Cheesman and Greyson Pinkston. The Pit Orchestra members are Gregg Baker, Jessie Blankenbeker, Don Correll, Mike Emmerich, Brenda Harris, Sophie Kershaw-Patilla, Dave Kintner, Jim Lane, Caitlin Ochs, and Josh Quick.  The sets were built by the RHS Building Trades classes under the direction of Steve Jenkins and Colt Poettker. Set dressing and painting were by Kristi Rawlings, Linda Sikorski, Jan Pulliam, Teresa Ferguson, and Barb Shimer. You are invited to share this fun and poignant performance.
