Lincoln Trail College Theater Director Taylor Dahlberg announced audition information for the College’s fall production of God of Carnage. Auditions will take place September 11 and 13 at 6 p.m. each night in the Zwermann Arts Center Theater.
God of Carnage, written by Yasmina Reza, is the winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play. The story follows two couples who meet to discuss a playground altercation between their children. However, as the night goes on, what starts as a civilized conversation turns into a boxing match, and as everyone’s true colors begin to show, chaos ensues.
There are four parts available: Michael Novak, Veronica Novak, Alan Raleigh, and Annette Raleigh. All of the characters are in their late 30s-40s, and auditions are open to those 18 and up. No previous theater experience is required to audition.
Dahlberg is offering tips for people auditioning. She says that when you arrive, you will fill out an audition form and then get called into the theater. Once you enter the theater, you will chat with the director and then do a short reading of your chosen monologue from the show. Dahlberg says after you’ve done your monologue, you’ll be paired up with other auditioners and be given a scene to read. “You’ll have a little bit of time to read through it together in the hallway before you come back to the theater and read it for the director. The director may ask you to change the way you are reading or give you some notes to try during the scene,” said Dahlberg.
She’s also offering advice to people auditioning. Dahlberg says you don’t need to memorize the audition materials, but you should take time to go over them in advance. She’s also encouraging people to research the play to help learn about the characters so you can embody the character while auditioning. Audition materials are available on Lincoln Trail College’s website.
Performances of the Arts at Lincoln Trail College’s production of God of Carnage are October 27 and 28 and November 3-5. God of Carnage does contain some mature language that may not be suitable for everyone.
