State Senator Rose, State Representative Niemerg Visit LTC

Aug 20, 2025

State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) and State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) visited Lincoln Trail College on August 19, touring the campus and meeting with students, faculty, and administrators to learn more about recent developments and the college’s role in the community.

The tour included stops at several high-profile additions to the campus, such as The Barn athletic performance center, Lackey Music Hall, Statesmen Park, and the Crawford County Recreation Center. Each of the projects was made possible through partnerships with local industry, private donors, and the Lincoln Trail College Foundation, underscoring the importance of collaboration in expanding opportunities for students.

College officials also showcased LTC’s synchronous lecture halls, which connect students in Robinson with professors across the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges district. The technology is helping to expand educational access for students in rural communities and is especially valuable for high school students taking dual credit classes.

Following the tour, LTC President Tona Ambrose facilitated a question-and-answer session between the lawmakers and a group of second-year students. Rose and Niemerg also met with faculty members. A central focus of that discussion was the proposed Community College Baccalaureate legislation, which would empower Illinois community colleges to offer four-year bachelor’s degrees in high-demand fields if certain conditions are met.

One of the day’s highlights came when Rose and Niemerg observed the start of work on LTC’s new Technology Center, which will house programs in broadband telecom, welding, and process technology. The nearly 22,000-square-foot building is expected to be completed in about a year and a half.

The visit also coincided with Lincoln Trail College’s New Student Orientation, bringing more than 140 students to campus. Students participated in sessions designed to introduce them to campus resources, connect them with peers, and prepare them for the start of classes.
