The Wabash Valley College radio station, 89.1 The Bash, turned 50 years old this year! The station celebrates 50 years of being on-air as a 50,000-watt station and rocking the tri-state with alternative music! The radio studio is in the science building within the radio and television department. WVJC was granted its first license by the Federal Communications Commission on February 22nd, 1974. To commemorate the event, there will be special promotions for the year, including voices of alumni on The Bash!

The Wabash Valley Arts Council recently hosted its inaugural Theatre Camp at the Wabash Valley College Brubeck Arts Theatre, bringing together young talents from the community for a week of learning and performance. The camp, open to students entering 5th grade through high school seniors, ran daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunch break at noon.

Lincoln Trail College is once again making it easy for students to prepare for the Fall 2024 Semester. LTC is offering Walk-In Wednesdays on four Wednesdays in June and July for people to take care of a variety of things to help them get ready for the Fall. “The beauty of Walk-In Wednesdays is that you don’t need an appointment,” said Lincoln Trail College Coordinator of Marketing and Public Information Chris Forde. “You can come in and our experts will help you.”

The Arts at Lincoln Trail College is offering a trio of dance camps for students ages 14-18. Each class will be taught by a different instructor and will cover a different type of dance. Students will learn about the history of that style and have the opportunity to dance it during the camp. The first camp is July 13 and covers musical theater choreography. The second camp is July 20 and covers jazz dancing and the final camp is July 27 and covers modern dance. Each camp runs from 12-4 p.m. and the cost of each camp is $20.

Lincoln Trail College’s Alpha Iota Epsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was recognized with some Illinois Regional Awards. LTC’s chapter was recognized as an Outstanding Chapter and earned an Honors in Action Project Award. Chapter President Guadalupe Amicone was named a 2023-2024 Outstanding Officer.

OLNEY, Ill. — Outstanding students at Olney Central College have received academic honors for the Spring 2024 Semester. Students named to the Chancellor’s List have attained a grade point average of 3.90 or higher, on a 4.0 scale. Those on the President’s List have achieved a grade point average between 3.75 and 3.89, while those students named to the Dean’s List have earned a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.74. People wanting to learn how to weld, brush up on their welding skills, and create art from metal will have an opportunity to do that through Lincoln Trail College this summer. LTC is offering a pair of community education classes for people to experience welding. Welding 101 will be offered Tuesday evenings in June from 5:30-7 p.m. at the McCoy Welding Center. Jackson Hemrich will lead the class that offers an introduction to the basics of welding.
