OLNEY, Ill. — For 16 seasons, the Olney Central College Community Choir has brought together singers from across Southeastern Illinois to share their voices, build friendships and experience the joy of making music together.
OCC Director of Choral Activities Dr. Andrew Pittman invites new and returning singers to become part of the tradition when rehearsals begin at 6 p.m. on September 8.
“There is something special about making music together,” he said. “To share the joy of singing together and to experience that visceral sense of connection that happens when voices come together is truly unique.”
The choir offers an opportunity for fellowship and camaraderie while giving singers the chance to learn, grow and perform alongside others who share a love of music. High school-age singers and older are welcome to participate, and no audition is required. The only requirements are the ability to carry a tune and, most importantly, a desire to sing.
“I think one of the most rewarding things about the Community Choir is seeing people come in at the beginning of the semester and watching their confidence grow,” Pittman added.
Rehearsals will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays in Room 216, the OCC Choir/Band Room, on the second floor of Dr. Kent L. Wattleworth Hall. The choir will present its annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. on December 3 in the Dr. John D. Stull Performing Arts Center.
