Lincoln Trail College students Madisyn McIntosh and Krista Phillips finished sixth in the nation at the Future Business Leaders of America Collegiate National Leadership Conference. It is the second year in a row LTC students have earned a top-ten finish at the event.
McIntosh and Phillips competed in the Business Presentation category. They were tasked with developing a presentation discussing the benefits and drawbacks of working entirely in the office, having a hybrid model, and working entirely remotely. The topic was chosen by FBLA because many businesses are currently evaluating remote work with the end of the pandemic. At the same time, many workers who have been working remotely are questioning a return to the office.
McIntosh and Phillips had to use a presentation software program to develop their business presentation. Their presentation had to be no longer than seven minutes. The two competed in both a preliminary round and the final round.
Lincoln Trail College FBLA Collegiate advisor Amie Mayhall says she’s proud of their performance at the competition. “Madisyn and Krista competed against the top performers from each state. They not only rose to the top of the Illinois rankings, but also the nation. I’m very proud of both of them, and I believe when our students are able to compete at this level it is a good reminder that their possibilities in life are wide open.”
Last year, Mackenzi McIntosh finished seventh in the nation in the Organizational Behavior and Leadership event. Mayhall says having top ten finishes two years in a row combined with strong performances from students at the state level shows that LTC students have grit, a solid work ethic, and the foundational principles needed to go far in life.
Mayhall, who teaches business courses at LTC, says this also shows that Lincoln Trail College is a good place for students interested in business to take classes. She says students have the opportunity to take business courses at LTC and transfer to a four-year college after earning an Associate’s Degree.
She’s also encouraging students to join LTC’s FBLA Collegiate organization. She says it will meet on Fridays at noon during the Fall Semester, which begins August 17. Mayhall says students interested in joining FBLA at LTC can reach out to her at mayhalla@iecc.edu or talk with an Academic Advisor.
