The first days of college can come with a mix of excitement, questions and a few nerves. Lincoln Trail College is working to make those first days easier, and a lot more fun, with New Student Orientation and two full weeks of activities designed to help students connect with the campus and one another.
New Student Orientation begins the welcome on August 17. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union, new students will learn more about LTC, play games to get to know their classmates, tour campus and get information to help them prepare for the school year. A cookout from noon to 1 p.m. at the Triangle will give students another chance to relax and meet people before the day wraps up.
The welcome continues with Weeks of Welcome, August 17-31. Rachel Dollahan, director of the Learning Commons, spearheaded planning for the schedule, which mixes practical support with social events designed to help students experience campus in different ways.
On August 18, students can stop by the Learning Commons for snacks and board games while getting help with Entrata, Canvas and testing.
Classes begin August 19, when TRIO Student Support Services will host “Donut Stress” from 8-10:30 a.m. in Williams Hall, giving students a sweet start to the semester and a chance to learn about TRIO and eligibility for its services.
Active Minds will host a movie night at 6 p.m. August 20 in the Learning Commons, while root beer floats will be served from 1:30-2:30 p.m. August 21 in the Student Lounge.
Club Rush takes over the area outside Williams Hall from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. August 24. Students can grab a free lunch while learning about clubs and ways to get involved at LTC.
On August 25, students can head to the Crawford County Recreation Center from 7-9 p.m. for pickleball and an opportunity to meet new people on and off the court.
Free mini donuts will be served from 1-3 p.m. August 26 in the parking lot, offering students an afternoon treat and another reason to spend time together between classes.
The fun returns to the Crawford County Recreation Center August 27 for a student pool party from 7-9 p.m.
On August 28, students can take part in a campuswide Duck Hunt from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., searching for hidden ducks and returning them to the Learning Commons for prizes.
Weeks of Welcome concludes August 31 with trivia from 1-3 p.m. in the Student Lounge, where students can team up with friends and test their knowledge.
Students will also have several chances to support LTC athletics during the celebration. The Statesmen volleyball team hosts Southwestern on August 24, Vincennes on August 26 and Southeastern on August 31, with all three matches beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
Together, the activities are designed to make the start of the semester feel less like simply arriving for class and more like becoming part of the Lincoln Trail College community.
