If you are interested in exploring one or multiple artistic media, local artist Mari Yamato invites you to join the Open Studio Art Class she will be teaching this spring at Olney Central College.
“The class provides the studio space for students to explore a specific area they are interested in,” Yamato said. “This is a great class for students who want to work in a specific media that is not offered as another class or if they want to work in mixed media.”
Media can range from the traditional like painting, drawing, sculpting and ceramics to jewelry making and acrylic pouring. Students will develop their own styles and techniques without the project requirements of most art courses.
““Students will bring in their own materials and ideas to work on,” Yamato said. “I will be there to help provide information. I also have multiple students that are well practiced in their own areas. We will help each other as we learn new things. It is a great opportunity to learn from other artists and to collaborate. It is a melting pot of multiple different media.”
Yamato, of Olney, has a background in illustration and holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has taught art classes at OCC for the past four years.
The class will meet in the OCC Ceramics Studio from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 11. For more information or to register for the course, call 618-395-7777.
