Carrasco Signs With Western New Mexico

Lincoln Trail College Lady Statesmen center Ashton Carrasco signed a letter of intent to play for Western New Mexico University.

“It feels pretty good,” said Carrasco. “I came here and I feel like I worked hard. It just feels good to have all of that hard work pay off. Now I can continue basketball career somewhere close to home.”

WNMU is about an hour from Carrasco’s Texas home. That was only one reason Carrasco chose to play for the Mustangs. She says she was also impressed with their coaches and commitment to win. Carrasco says she’s also already played with most of the players on the team already, so that should lead to good team chemistry.

Lady Statesmen coach Scott Sparks says Carrasco had a great two years at LTC and she’ll take many strengths with her to WMNU.

“Right off the bat, she’ll come in there with a lot of experience. She was a two-year starter for us. She’s also athletic, she’s led the country in blocked shots the last two years. She’s got a lot of experience playing at a high level and on top of that, she’s great academically.”

Carrasco believes her two years at Lincoln Trail College did a good job preparing her for her next step.

“I had good coaches, I had awesome teammates. I feel like I had a good family here. If I ever need anything, I can always call them. I feel like this has also prepared me for not only academics, but also for life in general.”
