Bobcats GPAs Ranked Within 10th in Nation

The national office of the National Junior College Athletic Association announced recently a record-number 6,006 student-athletes earned distinction on one of three prestigious 2016-17 NJCAA All-Academic Teams following their success in the classroom.

Seventeen students from Frontier Community College! For the spring sports, Bobcats softball had an impressive year in the classroom with a 3.59 average grade point average. In their inaugural year, the Bobcats baseball squad achieved a 3.39 average grade point average for the year. Bobcats volleyball also had a great year, averaging a 3.61 grade point average this year. Bobcats receiving recognition include:

First Team (4.0 GPA):
Jessica Rush - Volleyball; Michaela Beach - Softball; Nicole Jordan - Softball & Volleyball

Second Team (3.8-3.99 GPA):
Alexys Pedtke - Volleyball; Alyssa Kollak - Softball & Volleyball; Christopher Iltshishin - Baseball; Devyn Colvin - Volleyball; Isaac Johnston - Baseball; Kaitlin Woolard - Softball; Madeline Gillard - Volleyball; Misty Gill - Softball; Sara Green - Softball & Volleyball; Taylor Mosley - Softball

Third Team (3.6-3.79 GPA):

The NJCAA has been annually recognizing the academic success of its student athletes since 1983.

Two teams also received Honorable Mention for their outstanding team grade point averages for the year. Softball tied for seventh in the nation, while volleyball ranked ninth in the nation.

According to, a record number of programs earned honorable mention recognition by meeting the award requirements of a 3.0 grade point average or higher. A total of 740 teams posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher, breaking the previous record of 687 set last year.

Since 1993, the NJCAA has recognized the team with the highest overall grade point average for their sport and gender with the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Award. Teams that qualify with an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 receive honorable mention recognition.
