Adult Volunteer Literacy

Illinois Eastern Community Colleges is happy to announce the re-establishment of the Adult Volunteer Literacy Program at Frontier Community College!

The Adult Volunteer Literacy program provides instruction to help adults who read below the ninth grade level or speak English at a beginning level to improve their basic reading, writing, math, or English language proficiency. Services are provided through the use of trained, unpaid volunteer tutors.

Volunteer Tutor Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED/HSE certificate

Adult Learner Requirements

  • 17 years of age or older
  • Below 9th grade reading level OR beginning to intermediate English as a Second Language skills
  • Not currently enrolled in high school
