2014-2015 General Education Assessment
Curricular Areas assess General Education using embedded assignments in programs and courses. Assignments are assessed using rubrics developed by departments using faculty input.
Co-Curricular Areas are beginning to assess General Education skills using rubrics and surveys, as well.
Compliance Assist is the software system used to document, track, and report assessment results and plans for all levels of assessment at IECC. Data from all levels of assessment are easily accessible to all employees within the institution. Having transparency has increased development, effectiveness, and accountability regarding assessment work. We're all working together more efficiently because we have access to the same information.
General Education Rubrics for Critical Thinking, Speech, Writing, and Information Literacy were developed using Baseline, a sister program to Compliance Assist. Baseline allows not only the development of rubrics, but also administration of the rubrics, compilation of data, and storage of data and reports. A widget was built in D2L to house remote links to the rubrics enabling faculty to assess students' work and enter data all in one place and using one login.
In addition to rubrics, Baseline can also be used to develop and administer surveys to anyone using a remote link that can be emailed or housed within D2L or Entrata, IECC's internal network. Basline and Compliance Assist have transformed assessment at IECC. Data and reports from Baseline can be easily pulled into Compliance Assist for documentation purposes or downloaded, saved, and printed. Compliance Assist reports can be downloaded, saved, and printed as well.
